Dortmund have not won in the Bundesliga since October 29, but will be looking to break that spell on Friday against Freiburg. “The team is ready,” coach Edin Terzic said at a pre-match press conference. He added: “It’s always a pleasure for me and the players when we meet these types of games where everyone wants it just as much as you do – they are extremely intense with both teams giving everything they’ve got right from start to finish. It would also be nice if we could score more than one goal so I think this game suits Dortmund perfectly. We know exactly what we need to do and how we want to play. And then all we need is to perform at our best level for ninety minutes. Hopefully things go well!“ A win would bring Dortmund back into fourth place, two points behind Bayer Leverkusen who visit Mainz on Saturday.
Freiburg had been on an eight-game unbeaten run before losing to Union Berlin last weekend. They face Hoffenheim away on Sunday and need a point or more to keep their slim survival chance alive. If results go Freiburg’s way though, Borussia Mönchengladbach‘s visit to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night could prove decisive. The result there may determine whether Dortmund can overtake them later in the day. On Thursday, Wolfsburg host Eintracht Frankfurt while Schalke take on Augsburg on Friday.
For some reason Dortmund did not get off to the perfect start during Wednesday’s training session as Marco Reus was injured after falling awkwardly during a challenge with Erling Haaland. An MRI scan has confirmed that he suffered no serious damage which is good news because Reus missed most of the second half of last season with an injury picked up playing for Germany in September 2021. However, given his history injuries, the club will still conduct further tests. “We don’t expect any problems, unfortunately,” said Terzic. “He trained yesterday without any restrictions. But naturally we must wait until the end of today to decide about him taking part in tomorrow’s match.“ Julian Weigl(who has only recently returned to action having spent time out injured himself)could also miss out due to flu, although he too trained normally on Wednesday, leaving Terzic with few options should either player pull out ahead of kick
